Automobile Engineering Notes – AE pdf Notes

Unit-1:

A self-propelled passenger vehicle that usually has four wheels and an internal combustion engine used for land transport also called motorcar, An automobile is a vehicle that is capable of propelling itself since seventeen century, several attempts have been made to design and construct a practically operative automobile, components of engine, mechanism forming components, structural components value operating mechanism, value mechanism for side-valve engine, factors that affect the rolling resistance of a vehicle, when the travel uphill, a component of its weight works in a direction opposite to its motion. If some energy is not supplied to overcome this backward force, then the vehicle would slow down, cylinder block, cylinder head, gaskets, cylinder liner, crankcase, inlet and outlet oil pan, resonator, muffler, vibration damper.

Unit-2:

Clutch is a machine member used to connect the driving shaft, so that the driven shaft may be started or stopped at will, without stopping the driving. A clutch that provides an interruptible connection between two rotating shafts. clutches allow a high inertia load to be stated with small power, gearbox, neutral gear, reverse gear, overdrive, braking system, braking requirement, on the basis of purpose saved, on the basis of location, on the basis of drivers ergonomics.

Unit-3:

STEERING GEOMETRY AND FRONT AXLE, steering system, rack and pinion steering, worm and sector steering gear, worm and roller steering gear, cam and lever steering gear, worm and nut steering gear, power steering, integral power steering, new technologies and innovations in the steering system, wheel alignment, differential assembly, operation of differential, propeller shaft, loading of different axle-hub arrangements, semi-floating axle hub, suspension system.

Emission from Automobiles – Pollution standards National and international – Pollution Control – Techniques – Multipoint fuel injection for SI Engines. Common rail diesel injection Energy alternatives – Solar, Photo-voltaic, hydrogen, Biomass, alcohols, LPG, CNG, liquid Fuels and gaseous fuels, electrical-their merits and demerits.

Electrical System: Charging circuit, generator, current-voltage regulator – starting system, bndx drive mechanism solenoid switch, lighting systems, Horn, wiper, fuel gauge – oil pressure gauge, engine temperature indicator etc.

Transmission System: Clutches, principle, types, cone clutch, single-plate clutch, multi-plate clutch, magnetic and centrifugal clutches, fluid flywheel – gearboxes, types, sliding mesh, construct mesh, synchromesh gearboxes, epicyclic gear box, overdrive torque converter. UNIT – 8

Steering System: Steering geometry – camber, castor, kingpin rake, combined angle toe-in, centre point steering. Types of steering mechanism – Ackerman steering mechanism, Davis steering mechanism, steering gears – types, steering linkages.
